 Derek Flucker and representatives from Rio Tinto delivered a joint speech on Mining and Indigenous Communities: Aligning priorities for mutual benefit at the PDAC conference in Canada. PDAC is the largest mining conference in the world with an attendance of over 25,000 people including Andrew Robb, Australian Minister for Trade and Investment. Derek’s attendance was sponsored by Rio Tinto. Click here to learn about PDAC.

Derek met a number of Canadian Aboriginal groups who will be presenting at the AEMEE conference in Adelaide (26-28 October 2015).

RBY Hires Staff to Fulfil a $13.4 Million QGC Contract

After being awarded a large multi-million dollar contract, RBY Projects has been able to hire Indigenous staff within the QGC operational footprint. Furthermore, RBY has been able to train and develop new employees’ skills in civil construction. Read more about this here.

QGC and RBY Projects Working Together

RBY Projects started working with leading natural gas explorer and producer, QGC in early-2013. In May 2013, QGC awarded RBY Projects a $13.4 million contract to conduct civil works focused on rehabilitation of well pads and access roads in the Surat Basin. This contract is the largest piece of work awarded to an Indigenous organisation. To find out more, click here.

In December 2012, Derek Flucker was elected as the chairperson of the Aboriginal Enterprise, Exploration and Energy Ltd ('AEMEE') board of directors. AEMEE is a not-for-profit company aiming to develop and connect Indigenous Businesses with real opportunities in the mining, energy and exploration sectors. See AEMEE's website.

The theme of the 2012 Indigenous Business, Enterprise and Corporations ('IBEC') Conference was 'Growth and New Opportunities' for Indigenous Business and Enterprises. The IBEC Conference represented a unique opportunity for Indigenous business leaders, corporate representatives, and leading academics to discuss and present new opportunities for Indigenous people and communities.

Derek Flucker delivered an informative speech titled: "Using the past to build a strong future: Indigenous people working together to benefit from the resource sector". The speech explored the historical struggles which have united Indigenous people and the modern challenges often associated with different Indigenous communities working together in the resource sector. Derek asserted that the lessons of history can be used to unite Indigenous communities and allow the full benefits of the resource sector to be realised.
