A press release from Derek Flucker on the risk associated with abandoned mines and loss of opportunities

 RBY Projects managing director Derek Flucker stated in a media release that abandoned mine sites not only posed a flood management risk, they were also an environmental issue that Aboriginal communities wanted to fix. Derek Flucker stated that the mining boom provided opportunities for Indigenous people to create economic and social advancement opportunities for their families and communities. Derek also explained RBY's experiences in ensuring Indigenous people were able to benefit via employment and training for work occurring on their traditional land.

Derek Flucker discussed “Mining Your Own Business: Doing Business on Other People’s Country”. The speech addressed potential problems with Indigenous groups working together in the resource sector and explained the fundamental importance of RBY in providing neutral assistance to communities around Australia, without the perception of being tied to community political issues. RBY has continued to uphold its commitment to community by sponsoring Baralaba School to purchase much needed electrical equipment. RBY has plans to assist the community of Baralaba by working with Cockatoo Coal to deliver a traineeship program.
