Indigenous and Local Engagement


RBY is one of the most progressive and innovative companies in Australia. RBY are strongly committed to projects that support local communities as we believe that local engagement is in the interest of resource developers and local people. The overall aims of the division are to promote community sustainability by ensuring that local groups are able to benefit from work occurring on and around their traditional and local land.

Employment, Education and Training

RBY has made a real impact in the resource sector by liaising, recruiting, employing, educating and training Indigenous Australians and local people in resource, energy and civil works. RBY will implement training and educational programs in the resource industry. 

RBY educates and trains local people for a variety of roles throughout the company including, but not limited to:
  • Plant operators
  • Truck drivers
  • Administration officers
  • Project managers
The training and education division of RBY can be delivered through a variety of means including a mobile training school.

RBY’s model for delivering practical outcomes in relation to trainees and retention is based on the below model:



RBY’s tried and tested training model is successful in the engagement, retention and long-term employment of local Indigenous people. The training model is based on ‘on-the-job training’ and focuses on the gradual progression of trainees from lower-skilled contracts such as fencing and supervised operation of equipment to complex civil construction contracts.

Training on-site ensures that the trainee is given a chance to adapt to site conditions in a more flexible and supported environment. Once a trainee is through this initial acclimatisation process, the trainee will be ready to take on other employment on the work site or with a resource company.


RBY believes that having Indigenous employees across all levels of the company assists with sustainable Indigenous employment, education, training and the high retention of local employees. Given our training model, it is not surprising that the management team at RBY can boast one of the highest rates of retention for Indigenous workers in the industry, 

RBY has also assisted large resource companies to meet their Indigenous recruitment and engagement targets. Many of these companies have noticed that a local Indigenous workforce helps reduce costs for mining companies, including those associated with requiring a fly-in, fly-out workforce and improves retention rates.
